Other than Indian, Bangladeshis and Maldivian nationals, all visitors to Bhutan require a visa for Bhutan travel. No foreign mission/embassy abroad grants tourist visa for Bhutan; all visas are issued from Thimphu; visas are only issued to tourists booked with a local licensed tour operator such as SeeBhutan Travels, directly or through a foreign travel agent.
Local tour operators’ applies visa for their guest upon receiving the full tour payment along with visa fee of US$ 40 per person to Bhutan’s Bank Account. Visitors must send the scanned copy of Passport with validity of minimum 6 months from the date of intended tour. After the approval, copy of approved visa will be mailed to the tourist by respective tour operator.
Visa clearance must be obtained before coming to Bhutan. Visa clearance normally takes 2-3 working days to process. Air tickets to Bhutan cannot be purchased without visa clearance. At your point of entry actual visa will be stamped in your passport. Validity of the visa depends on the duration applied for; extensions can be obtained in Thimphu at a cost of Nu.510.
